Highfields Pioneer Village

 Highfields Pioneer Village is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the Darling Downs for future generations. The Village has Disabled Access, Toilets, Picnic area, BBQ facilities, craft workshops, educational & memory tours for groups.
The Village is situated just 15 mins drive north of Toowoomba, 3 km off the New England Highway. The Village covers an area of 20 acres of picturesque grounds with pleasant surroundings and picnic facilities and comprises of over 60 historic buildings open to the public 10:00 am to 4:00pm daily.
Our volunteers specialise in educational tours for school children, catering the tour to suit your needs.

Julia Creek Dunnart Display QLD

Julia Creek is home to the rare and endangered Julia Creek Dunnart (Sminthopsis Douglasi). This tiny bright eyed creature is an insect eating marsupial, found in the Mitchell Grass Downs of North West Queensland. With a body length of 100-120mm and a tail length of 90-100mm, the Julia Creek Dunnart can be distinguished from rats and mice by its size. Unlike rodents, dunnarts have pointy noses, large rounded ears and dog like teeth. Dunnarts also have the ability to store fat at the base of the tail when food is plentiful, giving it a fat appearance when they are in good condition.
