Alice Springs Reptile Centre

The Reptile Centre is open from 9:30am to 5pm daily, however we recommend that if you are visiting during the winter months (from May to August) then the best viewing time is between 11am and 3pm when the reptiles are most active.

The Gecko Cave is the ideal place to start your visit to the Reptile Centre. Marvel at the many species of gecko on display that would be almost impossible to see in the wild, then wander through the rest of the live exhibits to get up close to the reptile fauna that dominates our vast Northern Territory landscapes that we live amongst today.

Julia Creek Dunnart Display QLD

Julia Creek is home to the rare and endangered Julia Creek Dunnart (Sminthopsis Douglasi). This tiny bright eyed creature is an insect eating marsupial, found in the Mitchell Grass Downs of North West Queensland. With a body length of 100-120mm and a tail length of 90-100mm, the Julia Creek Dunnart can be distinguished from rats and mice by its size. Unlike rodents, dunnarts have pointy noses, large rounded ears and dog like teeth. Dunnarts also have the ability to store fat at the base of the tail when food is plentiful, giving it a fat appearance when they are in good condition.
